Bath and North East Somerset

Bath and North East Somerset is part of the Traditional or ceremonial county of Somerset. Bath is the main settlement in the district, which also covers Midsomer Norton, Keynsham, Radstock and the Chew Valley. The area covers 135 square miles. The population is around 170,200 and about half live in the City of Bath making it 12 times more densely populated than the rest of the area.

History

The authority came into being on April 1, 1996 when the County of Avon was abolished.

The district shares borders with Bristol, Somerset, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire.
